Dr. Ann’s Tasty Treat “Concoction” for Bone Health




½ cup non-fat plain Greek-style yogurt

½ tbsp almond butter

1 heaping tbsp  blended stewed prunes (see below)

1 tsp blackstrap molasses (optional for additional sweetness and more minerals)




Place all the ingredients in a small bowl (I use a standard ramekin for built in portion control) and mix until thoroughly blended.

Serves 1


All of the ingredients in this “concoction” are stand alone superstar foods for bone health. Combining them is especially powerful. Here are highlights on why they are so wonderful for bone health.

Plain yogurt – provides the most  bioavailable and richest food source of calcium along with a special protein called lactoferrin that stimulates bone-building cells called osteoblasts.

Almond butter – A great source of many bone-building minerals including: calcium, boron, manganese, magnesium, and zinc.

Prunes – Contain compounds that suppress the activity of cells that break down bone called osteoclasts along with lots of potassium and copper. Potassium and copper are important minerals for bone health.

Blackstrap Molasses – Provides one of the most concentrated food sources of several key minerals for bone health including manganese, copper, calcium, potassium and magnesium.




Easy Stewed Prunes

In a saucepan, combine 2 cups pitted prunes with 2 cups of water and 2 tbsp of lemon juice. Heat over low  until the prunes have absorbed the water – about 20-25 minutes. Place the stewed prunes in a food processor or blender (I use my bullet) and blend until smooth. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
